Tickenham: masterplan for rural housing development
The redevelopment of the two hectare site of the former Tickenham Garden Centre. The redundant glasshouses and hardstanding will make way for 32 two-and three-bed lifetime homes, and 900 sq. metres of flexible office space. Houses are arranged around a series of courtyards, each with a distinct identity. Traffic calming and pedestrian priority across the site is ensured through the use of shared space roadways.
The project is an example of how the redevelopment of unsightly brownfield land in the Green Belt can be handled sensitively to provide much needed housing. Benefits to the local community will include improved bus stops on the nearby main road, as well as a small park with water-meadow and woodland play areas.
The proposals received planning permission in 2017.
