Luckwell: apartments built around communal gardens

This project provides a mix of apartments and houses on the site of a former builders merchants' depot in South Bristol on behalf of Developments Bristol. 59 apartments are located in three buildings of three storeys, four storeys and five storeys respectively. The eight houses complete the terrace to Luckwell Road to the east of the site.

All dwellings are generously proportioned, with every plot enjoying private outdoor space in the form of a garden, roof terrace or balcony. The buildings are set around a communal open play space at the heart of the site. The dwellings are designed to high thermal standards, with a communal combined heat and power plant serving the development. Flat roofs will be planted with wildflowers to enhance biodiversity.

The planning application received unanimous support from Bristol City Council's Planning Committee in January 2019. The site with permission was purchased by United Communities, with a different scheme ultimately being constructed.
